I replaced some older hard drives with new Samsungs a few months ago, one of them failed after about 6 weeks although I was lucky enough not to lose anything. Another one has just failed today from the looks of things, and it doesn't look like I'll be so fortunate this time.

Are there any known issues with Samsung's current drives? I know they'll send me a replacement out soon, but I don't really want to stick with these drives anymore if they're going to fail every month!

I actually think the one that's died this time is the replacement lol.

It appears to be 'working' again, got another (Seagate) drive coming in the post, so I'll investigate further once it turns up and I've secured the data.

Well the irony is I replaced 3 old drives (they were all out of their 3yr warranty) with 2 new Samsung 500gb's. Kept all the data on the old drives for a few weeks, then sold them. Less than a week later, one of them goes and now it's replacement has gone.

It's now reporting the same SMART error message as the previous one did, but hopefully all the data will be salvageable. I've got a Seagate coming next week to replace it with, but I don't know what to do with the Samsungs after they've failed.

If I keep them it'll be nagging me that they could fail at any time, but I don't really want to sell them and buy 2 more either...

I wonder, is there anyone at Samsung I could whinge at? :D
