Quick question,

Have any of you had problems with your Samsungs? Iv got 2x 160GB drives, and both are giving me problems.

I keep getting disk errors. CHKDSK seems to sort it out for a few days, but then back comes the click of death, my comp dont normaly hang or crash but comes very near it. Takes about 2-3mins to shut down, then i can only run CHKDSK from the XP cd as it wont load back into windows. Sometimes it cant even detect the HDD in bios but a few re-starts normaly sorts that out.

Sounds like it's failing then, time to backup your data and then get it rma'd before it dies totally, Samsung drives have a 3 year warranty if I remember rightly.

I had 2x SATA 160 SpinPoints at the start of the year and they were giving me bad sector reports etc after about a year of heavy use. Tried CHKDSK but the more I ran it, the number of sectors being reported increased

I re-formatted, but no joy.

Got in touch with Samsung by email and the next thing I knew I was getting personal phone calls from their tech support trying to assist me! But it was fairly obvious that there was a mechanical fault. So they asked me to send them back.

I sent them back to Samsung, very impressed with the service; it was something like a 3 day turn around from the time of me sending them?

The replacements lasted me about another 8 months before I had to upgrade…

I really can’t fault the quality of the Samsung drives I used; I think I was just unlucky. Bad drives can crop up with any manufacture.

I thought their technical support service was spot on ;)

I've got a feeling my Samsung SP1213C is about to go. It is the second replacement to the original bought around 2 years ago. Like the above poster I've got no problems with their support. Last time they sent a courier the day after I contacted them and the brand new replacement came the following day.

just had a sp2004c start throwing up IO_WARNING_PAGING_FAILURE on boot up with it

it was my main drive and is only a year and a half old - did not want to take the risk with it so cloned it and moved to a new one

I have used samsung hutil utility but came back all clear on the self diagnostic, so I am going to try a few more things with it... bit disappointting as it is pretty young

my samsung died last month after 18months of use. Lost of a few things but managed to get them back again from elsewhere.
Even though it died it was a very good drive. Silent and faster than the maxtor i replaced it with.

It hasnt put me off buying another samsung.

I've never had any problems with maxtors.

I've got 5 80GB IDEs across several machines including one in a fanless server that's been running 24x7 for nearly 2 years. No failures yet, although the one in the server isn't as quiet as it used to be, the spin is now slightly audible. My brother has a 120GB SATA and that's fine too after more than a year. Seem like good drives in my experience.

got 3 samsungs all different, all <2 years old and only the 400gig which failed after a few weeks has caused problems
