I am going to be ordering a Samsung RF711 S07 laptop and the first thing I would like to do it replace the HDD with an SSD drive.

I have been considering the following:

OCZ Technology 128GB Vertex 4 SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" Solid State Drive

Crucial 128GB m4 SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" Solid State Drive

Samsung 128GB 830 Series SATA 6Gb/s 2.5"

Which one of these SSD drives would you choose and why? They all seem pretty good the prices are almost the same.

Does the Samsung RF711 S07 have two 500GB HDDs in it?

Samsung's website says 2x500gb, so you could replace one with the ssd and keep the other for storage. The crucial m4 seems the most popular ssd on this forum.

Thats why I asked :) I wanted to boot off the SSD drive and then use the other HDD for storage.

I fitted an m4 in someone elses laptop and it seems like a great drive.

I currently have the OCZ Vertex 2 but my machine seems to freeze at least once a month.

I'm leaning towards the m4...

Just remember to disconnect the hdd before installing windows on the ssd :p I've got an m4 too, or at least I will on Tuesday after its been delivered :p was contemplating it myself for a while and the m4 was the most recommended on here.

RF711

Upgraded my RF711 S07UK with
120 GB Vertex SSD and 2 x 8GB Crucial Value RAM both from OCUK.

No problems with the memory, but the BIOS needed flashing to 15HX before it would see the SSD and boot from it. Get the firmware upgrade option on the samsung site for the RF711, ignore the version number that's just the flash loader version. The loader downloads the latest bios - 15HX currently.

Wow, I never even considered putting 16GB RAM in that model laptop. Do you have a link to OCUKs website for the memory you installed in this particular laptop?

I think I am going to go for the 256GB Crucial M4 SSD drive :D

RF711

Flashed the bios on the Vertex to .22 from the as delivered .15 and so far all is well.

There will not be many RF711's left so hurry up if you want a cheap powerhouse. I got mine as a managers offer ex-display for £750, plus the £200 approx for the SSD and 16Gb. A lot cheaper than a 16GB Dell.
