Samsung S27A850TS 27" Widescreen Ultra Thin LED

so this is my newish monitor

as you can see its is a 2560x1440 display.
the problem is windows doesnt recognise its a 1440, as in wont let me set screen resolution to anything over 1080.
the same is true for a lot of games i play, no option for 1440.
is there something wrong here?

What cable are you using to drive it? Have you updated the GPU drivers? Have you tried downloading the monitor's drivers?

I have this exact monitor as a secondary and it works fine with 2560x1440.

hdmi, gpu drivers are up to date. where would i download the monitors drivers?

edit: says my drivers are up to date in device manager, but recognises it as 'generic PnP monitor'

How are connected DVI ?

What cable are you using to connect your monitor ?

I think it depends on the version of HDMI as to whether it can support anything above 1080p. Do you have a display port or DVI cable you could try connecting it with instead?

Which video card are you using and what version of HDMI does it support?

Ah sorry i see you said HDMI well that is your problem then max resolution via HDMI on that monitor is 1080p you will need to use a DVI cable or DP cable to get 1440p

yeah i have a dvi cable and have tried using it, but i only get a blank screen.
not really sure what that means. no display port cable to hand perhaps i should get one tommorrow to see if that works

Hmm that it strange it should work with the DVI cable as long as its a full pin DVI duel link cable like this one.

Other than that yes try a DP cable

If anything like the 32 Samsung, it won't automatically flip to the new input so you need to use monitor buttons to manually change input.
Also I found that turning off the monitor and Pc, then turning both on again helped when I was using different cables (shouldn't be necessary, but one time my monitor got confused)
