Think it's time to upgrade my phone, I've a Google Nexus 4 and it's fair to say I've got my moneys worth out of it. I still enjoy using it, however the battery doesn't have the life it used to and it's only 3G so time to get something more up to date.
I was thinking of the Galaxy S7 as it's only slightly larger and I don't really want one of the larger phones. As well as that there's an offer on at the minute that lets me claim a Gearfit 2 fitness tracker which I would certainly find useful as I enjoy walking, jogging, hiking etc...
Before I hit the Buy button is there anything else I should consider? Something of a similar size to an S7, a good camera would be high on the list and decent battery life. I'm not going to be too fussed if it doesn't have the latest and greatest features and although there's more modern alternatives such as the One plus 5 etc.. to be honest I think I'd find them a bit too big.

My only input is I absolutely love my S7 so would definitely recommend it.

Also love my S7. I don't have many phones and it's big and quite a bit heavier than my previous S4. I'm on a 12m upgrade plan atm but in all honesty I can't see me changing unless it's to give this one to one of the kids.

Thanks folks, I've pretty much really only heard good things and I've no doubt I'll be more than happy too. Just been out of the phone loop for so long that I wasn't sure if I was missing any other obvious choices.

Your could probably buy a oneplus 5 for the cost of a new galaxy s7? What kind of pricing can you get an s7 for these days?

They're very similiar in price. I was looking at the S7 for £480 and that includes a Gearfit 2 fitness tracker watch. The only thing about the Oneplus 5 that puts me off it is the physical size of it, I'm not sure how I'd get on with it moving up from the Nexus 4 whereas the S7 isn't a huge step up in size.

I think you get used to the larger size as I've gone from a 4.9" nexus 5, to a 5.2" nexus 5x and now onto a 5.5" oneplus 5. Try one in a shop!

If you really want to stick to a 5" phone If you're spending nearly £500 I think you should find the extra to buy an s8 instead personally! Either that or wait and see what the next Google pixel phone is like. Id have waited for the new pixel if my current phone hadn't broken to see what it was like before upgrading.

For around £500 I'd look at the Google Pixel. A very good phone with 5" screen, stock android and a great camera which will be supported for longer than other brands.

I've an s7edge. If I dropped it tomorrow is very same phone.

Best bang for buck.

For me
-waterproof
-headphone jack
-awesome camera
-quick charge
-good battery
-nled

Are my wants/needs. I need nothing more. The size is ideal and it has never lagged.

In what way?

Design (look and feel), screen (res, quality and screen to bezel ratio), camera, battery life, waterproofing, SD card slot to name but a few areas where the S7 still has the edge.

Look and feel is subjective so I'll leave that out.
OP5 has a much cleaner, faster and smoother rom and hardware, faster charging, USB-C, better fingerprint scanner, more powerful headphone amp, newer OS version, battery life is on par if not better, alert slider etc.

See this says to me the s7 is better in real terms but the o5 has a better spec.

Better display on Galaxy S7 Edge, brighter and higher resolution, camera is also better on the Galaxy S7, fast wireless charging, water resistances and sdcard slot.

I'd take the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Or even the Galaxy S8 from Amazon Italy for £502.

Depends if you value camera more. For me stock OS and speed is more important. Plus I don't like curved displays the OLED on the OP5 might just be 1080p but I've come from a Nexus 6 and it's not apparent at all.

There are much cheaper phones that can achieve that, if you don't care much about the camera a OnePlus 3/3T or Axon 7 would be just fine.
