hi guys,

anyone know of any good reviews of the Samsung SpinPoint F1 RAID 32GB hard disk drive? I have one of the standard versions of the 320gb drive but i'm thinking of buying one of these drives but i don't know what their performance is like in comparison to it's parent drive or other drives. It's either this drive or wait till the end of next month and buy one of the new g.skill 128GB Titan SSD's.

laters,

Myth.

It won't be any different performance-wise to the standard 320 F1, just that the firmware is tweaked slightly to work better in a RAID configuration. No benefit to you unless you have 2 and want to RAID them both.

So i might aswell just buy an additional 320GB F1 and just pocket the extra cash as go out and buy one of those? or like i said after, wait till the end of next month and buy one of the G.Skill.

Yep. Not sure about the SSD as I haven't seen any long-term reviews yet. Personally I'd wait 6 months before thinking about throwing a wad at one.

These are also designed to work 24/7 supposidly unlike their 'normal' drives.

I'm not paying a premium for that pleasure though considering my 'normal' spinpoints have been working 24/7 for a long time

If you're in the market for a "more reliable" enterprise class hard drive then the WD RE3 seems to be worth the money more than Samsung's F1 RAID. The former seems to have a fairly comprehensive set of improvements over the "standard" drives whereas I can't find much different with the Samsungs at all tbh.
