OK guys so I'm running the Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7.2krpm HDD and after seeing the windows index score me a 5.9 for data transfer on my primary HDD I investigated.

I ran HD Tune Pro and tested my reading speeds and then benchmarked to see the average read/write speed. Do these look about right or is there something wrong? (BTW: I did a health scan and there was no faulty blocks found at all)

Do these look right or do you think it might be a bit funny?

NOTE: I have not defragged my PC at all yet. I will be running a full defrag & deep optimize later tonight when i AFK so will this make a noticable speed difference?

Cheers guys.

I've been looking for a HD Bench Utility, this looks useful thanks very much, although I wouldn't know how to reply to your answer :L
Also which defrag utility do you use? Vista Defrag is slower than granny and my Tuneup defrag crashes and causes massive problems, I've never done a defrag :P

Auslogics Disk Defrag, its the best one and NEVER trust windows defrag ;p all it did to my old pc was break my program links... (windows 7 professional 64-bit im on btw).

I know that most folks don't hold much store by the Windows Index results anyway, but I have one of these drives installed in my system, and am also getting 5.9 here (the lowest figure!).

I don't think that is any cause for concern itself, but I will leave others to comment on the other results you posted.

I heard you can't go above 5.9 on Windows Index score using a mechanical HDD.
SSD's are the only drives to go above 5.9.

Thanks for the info on defrag BTW.

Mechanical drives won't score above 5.9 period.

In that case, I can see that I will have to get an SSD for my next build... it certainly won't be a 1TB one though! :D

However I do rather like the look of the new OCZ 3.5" ones, so can see that I will have to try and find a few more pennies first!

Okay thanks for all the help guys and yeah HD Tune pro and Auslogics Disk Defrag are the best to use. I just finished defragging & deep optimizing my system and its even faster! :D Will get an OCZ Vertex 60GB SSD at some point :)
