Hi,

I'm going to be buying a new SSD drive for my pc later today and i'm a bit stuck. I've decided I want to get a samsung drive, but I am not sure which one to go for. My internet research seems to indicate they are all identical apart from size.

The Samsung website seems to suggest they should reach 400mbs write speed, however the product descriptions here (and elsewhere) quote slower write speeds... Which is the one I should be ordering?

Also, 128 vs 256?

Thanks

Hi, Samsung 830 SSD as for size it all depends how you want to use it, my 830 > OS + Apps and latest Games[old games run on my WD500gb HD. As for write speeds, etc, depends if you are Sata2 or Sata3 and your PC set up.

Oh yeah those things are important too aren't they, brain not engaging...

Ok, My current rig is:

i7-3770K
Asus P877-VLX mobo
16Gb DDR3 ram
Nvidia 460GTX

So for the new SSD I intend to have the OS, Photoshop CS5.5, Office, and some games on the SSD. This will be on SATA3. I've got a Spinpoint 1Tb hdd I intend to use for storage etc.while my old 40Gb SSD Virtex 2 (sata2) as the scratch disk for photoshop.

Hope that helps

the 256gb £20 cashback offer ends 2morro,idk if youd be in time to catch it as you have to send off the form no later than the 30th

I'd seen the cashback offer - but I was more concerned with the varying reported write speeds.

The write speeds differ depending on the size of the harddrive, the 256 and 512gb write at 400mbs the smaller drives are slower.

These are the spec's from the back of the box

All read speeds are ~520mb/s
Write speeds are as follows:
64GB - 160mb/s
128GB - 320mb/s
256/512GB - 400mb/s

Wouldve replied sooner - my broadband seems to have gone down. Thank heavens for iPhones! Thanks guys for the speed conformation. Therefore will be getting the larger 256 drive. Many thanks.
