10k rpm drives run hot so the thins provide a method of cooling it... However completely pointless for a SSD that has mooving parts hence no to very little heat.
Yep, just for aesthetics mainly. It looks less of a ghetto install and fits in with the rest of my drives. Also I can easily remove it from the anti vibration HDD rack in my case rather than fiddle about unscrewing the Akasa SSD mount. I wasn't expecting it to cool my SSD
