Looking to purchase this lens over the 16-35mm Sony FE, but from what I can tell there are different versions.

Found two places selling, but they seem to be different versions, and not sure which of them has the more recent version.

As for the differences between versions, I think it has to do with one being chipped and the other not, but am not certain on that.

If anyone can offer advice it would be helpful.

Edit: saw someone mention somewhere the red ring version is the newer, and if so, that would make the e-global one the later one no? Assuming correct images used...

The 14mm samyang is a full frame lens. I think englishpremier is thinking of the 12mm. Judging by the image alone (not the best idea), the eglobal one shows the actual sony mount (I think) however the digitalrev image is of the nikon version. Judging by the fact all versions seem to feature an aperture ring, I think most are stop down metering only, including the sony.

well, went ahead and ordered it. Figured for south of £200, it was worth a punt.

Yes, I would like the Sony 16-35mm, but I don't use wide angle all that often.

Now just the 90mm left. Probably just order that from digitalrev today.

I've got the Sony 10-18/4 and find it works quite well on the A7.

I've removed the baffle on mine.

It's better corrected than the Samyang, though not quite as sharp, and a lot more expensive, but has good resale value.

the samyang arrived and seems like nice little lens. didnt occur to me though that focus peaking wouldnt happen automatically.

had to reassign one of custom buttons.

I know its too late but if you don't like wide angles much then I would avoid the Samyang and get the 16-35mm. 14mm is seriously wide and a very specialized lens that is really hard to use well. 16-35mm gives a lot of versatility and works as a great walk about lens for landscapes, street and architecture, pair it up with a 70-200mm type lens and your golden.

Even if you do wide angle work a lot the 14mm is an uncommon length.

yeah, the 16-35mm would be nice, but with the amount i have just spent, figured i would put off the cost of that one for a while. though i did think it would make a nice walkabout on the a6000.

think the whole full manual thing will grow old quickly for me though :)
