San Andreas Multi player

I have had a couple of goes at this recently and I'm not sure if I'm just a complete noob or virtually everyone else is cheating. I can blast away at people without seeming to do any damage yet I am constantly getting killed by virtually everyone. I run them down in a car and again it doesnt seem to do anything. Am I missing something obvious here?

ive just started playing this and it does seem hard. Most players seem to get a shield from ammunation which effectivly doubles their healh. I notice that running people over seems to do minimal damage, i think the game has been set up that way on purpose.

run someone over and park on them when theyre on the floor... their health just goes down and theres nothing they can do... mean but fun

I cant even do that as they sort of slither out from under the car, oh well I will just have to keep trying.

Im going to keep trying at this game because i think there could be a lot of fun to have

Ive finished gta:sa twice so thought i would be a bit better at the online version. As with most online games, there are always players who put a lot of hours in and no all the 'tricks' so makes life hard for a noob (like me!).

By far the best online mod ive played is a half life 2 mod called "the hidden (source)" Anyone with half life 2/steam really should download it. I wont go into all the details (ok, 1 player, in turn, is invisable!) but it has a lot of depth (not just a death match) but at the same time they are quick rounds and everyone starts equal. You wont come face to face with a guy who has x amount of shield and a huge arsenal of weapons etc.

I hear the gta: vice city online mod is good but ive never played it. Anyone here played that one ?
