just got one of these for XMAS and it wont work in Vista?

Ive stuck it in my XP laptop and formatted it and remvoed all the crap off it...

But still it recognises it but cant install a driver :O

Any ideas?

Looking at Sandisk website it says theres 2 versions one that supports readyboost and one that dont - does it say readyboost on the packet?

Also theres a tool on the Sandisk website to remove the 14mb partition that contains that annoying program that searches for music when you connect it.

I did not think he was talking about Readyboost, simply getting the drive to even initialize in Vista for 1st time as a Storage Device (wont know till he comes back).

As Thebug says. Just formatting the drive wont rid you of the U3 program.

Use above in XP mode.

Have you tried checking that its just not mapping a drive letter to it? Does it see it under device manager?

My 2GB Sandisk U3 drive works fine under vista, just without the U3 stuff....

4GB version I have works perfectly, for what it is.

I formatted it straight away to get rid of the U3 stuff, its just a shame the transfer rates on the pen are poor, really annoying as I expected sandisk to be good!

i stuck the drive in an XP pc and removed the u3 software with the tools from SANDISK.

now the usb pen works fine in XP and is formatted using the program.

but when i stick it in VISTA .... nothing...still cant find :(

Nothing at all in Vista? Does it even make the "connected PnP device" noise?

Does it show in device manager as ANYTHING? Even an "unknown device"?

Try unplugging all USB devices, then deleting C:\Windows\inf\INFCACHE.1 (You'll need to take ownership, and change the security on the file to allow you to delete it).

This resolves one hell of a lot of Vista USB problems.

I've got the Sandisk Cruzer 4GB ready boost pen drive.

Had to remove the U3 stuff with a 3rd party app, google is you friend here. Re format with FAT.

Mine wasn't recognised at first until I enabled readyboost in services as for some reason it was disabled.

If the drive is still not recognised then check that the USB port you are using is working

correct.

it worked before i left it in for 30 mins and didnt use my computer... it said found new hardware.... but i didnt install any drivers because i dont have any... next thing.... it found it.

i restarted and it asked to install drivers.... yet again i couldnt find any then it dissapeared.

I posted this in another thread - give it a try:

Do a search on C: (including hidden, system & non-indexed locations) for usbstor

You should find a file usbstor.sys and usbstor.inf in a usbstor.inf_XXXXXXXX folder in the C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\ folder

Copy these into C:\Windows\INF, and restart the computer.

(I'm doing it on a 32 bit Vista, I don't know if they've changed the file locations much in x64)

You should now, hopefully, be able to just plug in a USB memory stick, and have it work.
