Sandy Bridge Failed Chips

@Simon Maltby Might be an idea to keep your OP updated with a chart of busted chips. I tried not to post in here to keep it clean but since thats already gone out the window...

Agreed. I will work something out later. I suppose it was too much to hope that a thread would remain clean and tidy LOL

Anyhow will see but to me its either early days or it just looks like 2-3 guys got dead chips...

Got word back from my supplier that the chip i sent back ate the technicans motherboard for lunch and had a 2gb DIMM for afters. No idea how my mobo survived, still ticking away at 4.5Ghz stock volts with the other 2600k. Freak chip i guess, had bad cpus before but not board killers

A cpu killed their hardware? Is this possible?

Have heard of it happening, not seen it personally. God knows what, the general degredation (at stock speeds/volts) could have been a sign of something not quite right with the core, guess whatever it is might have eventually shorted so bad it caused a high current blowout or something, without vast technical knowledge and an electron microscope no one can be sure and its just wild speculation on my part. My supplier and me have a fairly good relationship as i've used his company for about 10 yrs and have friends in common, get massive discounts etc.. so i doubt hes b'sin me. Already picked up the replacement 2600k, he will deal with the rest. Probably a one in a million chip tbh, lucky me! :D

That chip could have easily ruined someones day then, was like a ticking time bomb!

Also....wana be my friend? Do friends of friends get discounts? lol.

not been able to get my snadybridge system (got it last friday) up and running yet due to a mess up with my corsair hx 750 psu which came with no PCI-E 6/8 pin cables =/ these threads about them breaking are scaring me now lol

Don't be concerned. There have only been a few failures out of the 600+ that have been sent out from OCUK so far.

My second chip is a dream, everything I was expecting from the first one.

considering how many have been sold, the rate of failure is about normal. mine's been fine so far!
