Sandy Bridge New Build Problem

I have built a system comprising of a Asus P8P67 PRO motherboard, 2500k CPU and a geforce 570 graphics card, when it's up and running it's fine, the problem is when powering on for the first time it powers up, hard drives spin up then after around 5 seconds it turns off, then powers up again by itself and nothing, no display comes on, no beeping, if I hold down the power button to power it off then power it up again it boots first time perfect, I have flashed the bios but still the same, must admit I am a tad baffled.

Any ideas?

Is it overclocked?

I had a similar problem (old i7 920) before that was due to RAM being pushed too far in the overclock. Hauling back the timings sorted it.

Is there a CMOS reset switch you could use to start afresh?

Hi thanks for the reply, no not overclocked, everything standard, flashed the bios which reset it, am confused by this one.

Try the system with one stick of ram.

You could also test the Ram using the Memory diagnostic that comes with Vista and 7,just trying to eliminate things for you.

What PSU are you using.

Yeah was going to try removing one stick of memory, PSU is a cooler master GX 750, when it's up an running it's fine.

hmmm even thou you say nothing is overclocked, when you get in to the bios, reset everything to default clocks....

Have a look to double check what default volts and clocks it sets however after you do this, as it may be possible that the default is wrong somewhere.

Try flashing the bios, to a newer one if there is?

Possibly the factory or other have left an overclocked setting some where.

When the computer exhibits what your saying, its the overclock its having an issue with.

The OP has already said the system is not Overclocked?

Ok update time, tried it with one stick of memory, exactly the same, I misdescribed the problem somewhat, this is exactly whats its doing.

When I first power it up, the red CPU diagnostic light comes on, then goes off, then the memory diagnostic light comes on, the computer then powers off, around 3 seconds later it powers back up, again red CPU diagnostic LED comes on and goes off, then memory LED comes on and off now the Graphics card LED lights and goes out and it posts. works fine after and I have spent a few hours gaming without any issues.

Wierd if you ask me.

Did you 100% make sure the memory volts and timings in the bios are correct ? Also as someone above advised try going to asus support site and look for a newer bios.. Also which memory did you buy ? Can you add the link here mate then I can check for you if Asus consider that memory one of the types that will work fine with that motherboard. Which PSU are you using too ?

Also can you run this :-

Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool

http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm

Make sure to use the correct version for your system be it 32bit or 64bit and download the manual too, to make sure you understand how to make it work.

This way can rule out the CPU then.

I think that is saying that the motherboard is at 101 instead of 100. I notice the Asus board sets it to 100.3 or something like that in the bios if you leave it on Auto. I'm guessing the Intel software does not pass unless its at 100.

Mine passes that test ok, but fails on IMC big time... but i am getting BSOD

Hmmmmm should I be worried? I am not getting any BSOD, played Crysis for hours with no issues

Naa don't be worried with that error, it's just typical Asus raising slightly the clocks to make their boards seem faster then companies that don't do it ;).. Set it to manual 100 not auto in the BIOS and it will pass ;)

What PSU do you have there ?

Having this issue also, tested the ram and CPU and no issues reported. First time I turn it on I just get a black screen, if I restart it moments later is fine. No crashes/lock UPS or bsod.

I5 2500k, p8p67 deluxe, 8gb patriot ram, 6970his, 80gb ssd Intel & 750w tx corsair

Anyone have any ideas ?
