Has anyone here ever had to replace a motherboard after installing an oem copy of Windows?

Is it an easy thing to do?

Hope I'm wrong but I'm getting the impression that a like for like replacement of my board is not going to be as easy and clear cut as I was hoping.

I think it likely that the OS will not auto activate with the replacement motherboard... however I have never known Microsoft to not activate an OS over the phone.
So, although it may be time consuming and require a phone call, I'm very confident that you will not have issues.

Over the phone?

Could you explain how this works?

(sorry for sounding a bit dumb. I honestly don't have a clue so any help on this is greatly received)

When you get the new motherboard, just install the OS as normal, or just reconnect your hard drive from the old board an boot.

If it says you need to activate, let it try over the internet.

If that fails it gives you the option to activate by phone, will give you the UK phone number and a long series of numbers... you enter those on the phone, or read them out to an opperator. they will then give you a long set of numbers that you enter in and then you press OK and its ativated.
