Hi 8 pack, just a questions to ask what is your favourite chip and why ? What do u think of ivybridge compare to sandybridge as I know many peoples say ivy is too much heat problem, while sandy is the cooling side. But it seem sandybridge-E is very popular and dunno why is that.

I dont really think Ivy has a heat problem, they still overclock well and with a good cooler you keep decent temps. I'm never over 60'c!

8 pack has stated before SB-E is his fave, the reason they're popular is the sheer power they can generate. My CPU @ 4.4ghz folding hits about 20k PPD. The 3930k I've seen people generate 100k+ PPD!

Sandy E all the way and X79. I like it so much because there are so many more options for tweaking.

Sandy E is so complex too with quad channel RAM, often 6 cores with 12 threads and all those PCI EX 3.0 lanes to use.

Its very difficult to bench with too cold as its cold bug and each chip has its own favorite temp. I like the challenge of unlocking all this performance.

Sandy E has also got me most points on HWbot too!!!!!

The others are good chips no doubt but in my main rig at home and infact at OCUK I have Sandy E.

I will be getting both 3980x and Ivy E. Its the only way!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finding one of these to match my nearly 5.7ghz Graphics stable 3930 may be difficult though.

Might have to bin some;)

what about those dual socket motherboards? two cpu's on one board, surely they would kick butt

The SR2 based CPU are excellent yeah for PCI X 2.0 stuff yes but they suffer with more modern cards due to lack of bandwidth.

The SRX CPU's are PCI X 3.0 and score very heavy for CPU based benchmarks such as Physics in 3D 11 and CPU in vantage. But because they are locked down you loose out in the graphics scores on the bench as you cant overclock them very far.

Ok we need to get that in the pipeline

OCUK LAN comp =)

my moneys on 8pack purely because he's the new kid on the block

should make a vote for the games to play and force max gphx settings to be run on all games
