Sanity check needed.

Asus have confirmed they're compactable on their CPU support list however you may need to update the bios.

The sanity check is that I have assumed the bios will boot with the CPU but may give a following error: unsupported CPU.... which then allows me to update the motherboard to the necessary version.

Is this correct?

Nope. If the BIOS doesn't have the right version you won't be able to do anything.

how surprising...

just checked the bios versions and surprisingly the G2120 works/requires the sandybridge compactable bios version so no update will be needed.

Unless you already have the board you won't know which BIOS version it has. The G2120 won't work in it unless it already has a BIOS that enables Ivy Bridge support.

oic, i was on the assumption the sandybridge bios update would have been stock but turns it out, it was only released a month ago.

B75 motherboards are ivy-bridge compactable right?
