I recently purchased the below hardware from the MM to replace my 2500k:
5820k (6 core/12 thread) @4ghz
16gb DDR4

Now I have the option of the machine below (for free):
Dell T7600
2x E5-2587W (8 core/16thread) @3.1ghz
64gb DDR3

My thinking is the 5820k and DDR4 are more suited to modern gaming, correct? This will be the primary use for the system.
Games are not utilizing 8/16 cores/multiple physical CPUs at this point, correct?
My current 1070 will be put in the setup I go with if that makes any difference.
 
Both use Haswell architecture, so definitely the first.
Even if next-gen games want more cores, that Xeon has such limited clock speeds that it will slow down those critical main threads.
