Saphire 5770 (vaporX) problem

Ordered this from the store yesterday http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-222-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1515 along with a copy of Win7 pro 64 bit. Installed both a couple of hours ago and all seemed fine until after about two and a half hours of reinstalling software and updating WoW the screen started to heavily pixelate and break up, the system locked up before a pop up appeared stating the GFX driver had died and the system had recovered. So far i have tried the drivers that came with the card and the latest catalyst pack from the ATI site and this has happened with both. anyone have any suggestions?

how are the temps on the card?

It's not doing anything apart from installing software hence it is running at 35 degrees or so

So what is best to do? if this is going to carry on then it will make this rig unusable as a gaming machine

If it's the same issue mentioned there then try upping the 2D clock speed on the card, see if that does the trick..

Thnx will give it a go in the morning, going by the number of complaints going around there does seem to be a fundamental problem with these cards though?

Yes. Looks like it. If 10.3 doesn't work it's RMA time for me.
The 10.3 betas have helped me a bit. They're easy to find...

Will try them as well thnx, the problem is if i rma this card the freezing issue and pixelation is intermittent so theres no way of knowing if it will show during OCUK's test's so will they accept it back?

k just tried the 10.3 beta drivers ran WoW for 30 mins or so and all seemed fine until i logged out when the screen pixelated before turning into the "grey screen of death" and this appeared in a pop up

Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver ATI Radeon family stopped responding and has successfully recovered

temperatures didn't go above 39degrees whilst in WoW

Quick update to this, whilst also having a webnote open discussing these issues I have been in contact with Sapphire, their only option was to try the 10.2 drivers, after this failed they said to rma this card. So after a brief phone call earlier this card is being shipped back (just gotta hope these fault show during OCUK's test's now :s )

I'll be doing the same, but I'm holding on for the official 10.3 in the last week of March.
If the Manufacturer has agreed an RMA it shouldn't be an issue with OCUK surely ?

Seems ATI are having real issues with the 5-series cards? I know nV had problems in the past, but the number of threads about these kinds of issues with the ATI card is phenomenal.

To be fair, they are pretty popular - they seem to be everywhere on these forums. Not only that, some of the grey screen issues (many in fact) were related to over ambitious clocks, timings etc.

It's true that they are very popular with enthusiasts - but the problems have been mostly with standard cards in a wide range of models in the 5xxx range. People have been under and overclocking their cards in a desperate attempt to get them to work. i.e. it's the effect, not the cause.

True. It's just that with many of them on these forums, and the fact you tend to read more bad than good anyway, and the fact that the user numbers are growing (many people join a forum such as this just to troubleshoot if they are out of ideas) since previous launches.

Then again, having been affected by some of the problems myself, (which was fixed by increasing the GPU voltage), maybe there is something a little off somewhere.

I have a sapphire 5770 not had a single issue with it.

Sounds like certain setups are running in to issues with them or simply duff cards slipping through QC.

I'll 2nd that, I have two running in x-fire without a single hiccup.

Used to run with just one, and same goes not a single hiccup.

That's what's so infuriating, it's seems to be just bad luck.

The problem appears on a wide range of system specs combining all of the major manufacturers.

It mainly seems to be the vapor x though pretty sure it's the 2d clocks issue.

I had 2 5770's both turned out to have problems and PITA got 2 5870's used in the same systems without a single change and same drivers not 1 problem go figure
