Bought my Sapphire X1950XT today not impressed, seems awfully slow in any game i throw at it. My old Sapphire 1900gt rev 2 was faster at least it could play Dirt on medium.

Noticed the XT shows core 500mhz and memory 593mhz what gives?? I thought it was meant to be running at 650 and 1800??

Any ideas anyone, using 7.4 drivers at the moment.

any driver problems listed in event viewer?

everytime i try to bf2 online i get crashes with vpu recover kicking in all the time. its plain stupid this ati driver support:
Display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has successfully recovered. is all i keep getting

Games still seem slower than my 1900gt rev2 upgraded to 7.5 drivers too. start off fine then slow down

and i have not heard the fan spin up while gaming as it does when pc starts

may go back to xp instead of vista

help hair falling out

This is honest ADVICE from a Sapphire X1950xt 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E owner and I accept no responsibilty for any mistakes you make, or damage caused.

Sounds very much like it's running at the 2D clocks, and without enough voltage.

If it constantly crashes and your getting wierd lines and black triangles, try altering the PCI-E frequency in the bios to either 99/101Mhz or anything upto 110mhz (I found this with my 1950xt, and I was pulling my hair out for a while as well).

try this.... Uninstall drivers... boot into safe mode, run driver cleaner pro and remove all ATI stuff. reboot, cancel all the 'found new hardware' dialogs, and reinstall JUST the drivers and NOT CCC. Then install ATI TOOL, and set a new profile and set voltage to 1.4 or 1.45 and adjust core to 621 and 900/1800 (THAT IS REFERENCE card, if it's a power color card it may be different values, please check)

Lastly, try aiming a fan at the voltage regulators (rear of the card near the HDD's as it may be these overheating).

Current driver is 7.7, although 7.6 may be more stable.

Well if he has a powercolor then those are the default 2d clocks. the 3d ones are only 628/693, a far cry from the true xt specs of 650/800 as he rightly says.

I tried using ati tray tools to create a pretty aggressive fan speed profile (basically 75% default, stepping up to 100% over 65 degC) and even then it could only reach in the region of 650/725. In the end I figured it just wasn't worth it for now as the accelero isn't the best of coolers when strapped on a 1950 series card, so I've just gone back to using the CCC and all-default settings.

Sounds like overheating to me then, especially if VPU recover is kicking in. Is the HSF on the card noticably dusty?

Personally I am gonna wait till he comes back and comments to diagnose it more :)

I thought my xt was overheating (although the temps were not very high) as it just wasn't stable, turned out to be combo of pci-e freq and low voltage. If I went on the Sapphire forum I can guarantee they would say the PSU is naff, buy a new one. No diagnosis at all. (actually I can't even post on there even though I registered with my work email and activated the account... anyway.. OT)
