Sapphire 6970 Major Problems

I do apologize i didn't mean to be offensive.

It wasn't directed at yourself. It's just a quote from "Bambi" the Disney movie. It was directed at the abuse I received on page 1.

Back on topic anyway. I'm glad I'm not the only one receiving problems, was starting to think it was just me. Hopefully a driver update from ATI will fix our problems.

I have got it working optimally now with the latest drivers, however getting lower FPS than expected in some games. Liberty City Stories, Averaging 21FPS.

What make PSU do you have? (This is important)

Did you have an Nvdia card installed before you got the 6970?

Edit: i can see you used to have an ATI card previously

I would 100% reinstall OS

When OS is installed, just install the CCC and the chipset drivers etc and then run your benchmarks and see what you get

It cant be ATIs drivers if it was we would have countless 6970 threads here

When i have bought new cards in the past,i have sometimes had similar issues to you,a OS install 99% of the time fixes things, try it

And burning down your house sorts out that ant infestation too...

People always blame the drivers rather than themselves :p

I have had zero issues with ATI drivers

I have to say I agree with this as well, AMD drivers work just for me (and Nvidia drivers as well). I would if there's driver issues then you would expect a board full of threads talking about the problem but 9 times out of 10 driver issues get blamed for indivdual issues. As for hardware faults the failure rate I would expect to be 2 to 4%.

3D Marks 06 score is about correct for your CPU btw - you won't get more than about 18K tops with a Q6600 @ 3.6gig. Also 3D Marks 11 doesn't give high fps on default settings on any setup 10-20fps is about right for a single card with even less in some sections.

Now to be fair I have had the exact same problem and its only down to forums like this that I got it sorted, I have had ATi cards since the 9800 pro and this is the first ATi card that has had driver issues.. and i have had a 4870 x2!

I Downloaded 10.12a and installed with no probs, after removing 10.12 using the installer to remove the old drivers.

hope this helps

Pretty daft thing to say there... although I've never had any problems either, there are so many different hardware/OS configurations that people have, some are bound to experience problems which aren't their fault.

EXACTLY! It was that stupid It didn't merit a response. I've installed hundreds of drivers on many different graphics cards without a hitch, unfortunately this time wires got crossed.

I used this, just be smart about the ccleaner, and ONLY delete the files that state ati unless ur absolutly sure about it.
(a save regfile is a good idea)

I followed this and fixed some issue I got with the preview driver (dont use it on 6900 series);)

If I'm having problems and I suspect it's because of driver install issues, what should I do?

This is what the Caveman does for Driver freshness. You'll need two free tools - CCleaner and DriverSweeper. You'll also need to know how to reboot into safe mode, and to be able to use 'common sense'.

Disable Eyefinity groups, Crossfire, if enabled
Optional - Enter Device Manager: Uninstall Display Adapters and check box for 'Delete Device Driver'
Add/Remove Programs: Remove currently installed Application Profile updates (if installed)
Uninstall CCC and Display Driver, using Catalyst Install Manager Custom mode (Don't express uninstall if you have an AMD Chipset)
Reboot into safe mode
Run Driver Sweeper for ATI Display Drivers, don't reboot.
Run CCleaner for Registry - run Analyze and only select ATI entries for removal.
Delete the following folders (applies to Vista/7)
SystemDrive:\ProgramData\ATI
SystemDrive:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ATI
SystemDrive:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\ATI
Reboot to desktop, run Express install on desired Catalyst driver & reboot if prompted.
Install all Application Profiles newer than Driver release (i.e. 10.3whql/a/b would use both March & April profile updates).
Enjoy!

I

a men to that :)

Best way to install new drivers imo

Hope you get it sorted matey i no how frustrating it is when an expensive new toy does not work the way you want it to
