Hi guys. Forgive me for the vast number of noob questions im about to ask over the coming weeks lol. Im totally new to WC and currently just combing threads/websites looking at what components best suits my needs.

Just been flicking through the EK cooling configurator and the XSPC compatibility lists and it appears that none their FC blocks fit my card. Now i was under the impression there was some degree of standardisation with regard to layout of components on GPU and that any 7970 block should/will fit.

Does this mean that they WONT fit my card, or could is just be that be that they havent been designed/tested on my particular model? Dont really like the idea of taking an £70 punt on the off chance its going to fit :(

Ive got the sapphire vapor x 7970 as shown here.

Anyone care to shed any light on this? Thanks :)

sapphire tend to use their own pcb design,so not sure if that block will fit tbh

to guarantee a fit you need to look for reference cards like the msi oc card

You've got no chance mate, a friend of mine bought a pair for XFire all he could get were universal blocks, Swiftech do a universal block and then a seperate black shroud/ heatsink with fins that makes it almost look like a full cover block, that's what my mate went with they look pretty cool once done. I'll give a bell and try and get some pics sent to me I'll post them later for you mate.

Not seen that combo before, looks great. Need to try and track it down now

Yea the more and more i look into it the more and more bleak the outlook is lol. Now to decide whether to sell the vapor x and go for a reference model, or give the swiftech solution a go.

How do you think the universal block/heatsink together would perform against a full cover block?

That's quite gorgeous :)

I'm a bit concerned how the vrms would be cooled only by a heatsink though.

I imagine it would still be better than the refrence cooler :)
