some of the reviews (at OcUK) say the 2nd bios unlocks the shaders - can anyone confirm?

A mate wants to upgrade for BF3...and can't really stretch the extra £20 for the 6970...

The chances of getting a 6950 that unlocks are very slim. The manufacturing process was altered ages ago to stamp it out. IIRC it's only AMD reference design cards made within about 4-5 months of release that would unlock.
 
i thought that too, but there are 4 reviews from october last year onwards saying they've been able to unlock them???
 
I bought one from amazon back in October,

It didnt unlock :(

Still a very good card though even without the extra shaders.
 
I bought one 17 Jan from here (refreshing an old i7 920 so needed something now) when it was in 'this week only' deal. Didn't include Dirt 3 like the box shows, or the DE:HR that is included now. The switch didn't unlock the extra shaders either unfortunately.

I'm just running it at stock along with the 920 at stock too and it's been great on what I've thrown at it (1680x1050, SWTOR included). The cooler is relatively quiet in my Lian Li/H50 Corsair combo and overall it's a nice card. Idles at 36-38 and then 58/60 in SWTOR/Games.

yeah it was correct,ive just swapped the slots over,i was using the other slot as i have a micro atx board and space was tight and the card is pretty close to the h/s, so now i have lost a sound card to accomodate the gfx card,but i suppose the gain is worth some sound quality :(

Ok, flicked the switch, no unlocked shaders on mine unless I needed to do anything else? Gona set it back to the normal setting for now.
