I haven't used a PC desktop in years, only been using laptops both windows and macs, I'm finally going to start playing quality PC games once my new machine arrives this week, super excited

Well got my Sapphire Tri-x 290's today, must say a massive step up from crossfire 6970's, did have a moment when I thought the first card would not fit my case, these cards are massive, however its all in and crossfire working like a champ. (Pci express gen 3 x8 mode)

Top card (with 3 screens attached) idle's at a nice 35c with the bottom card @ 32c, On full load I'm just hitting 80c on the top with 73c on the bottom, that's after a few runs on heaven to get things going, so well please with all that plus they are very quiet...also the clocks never dropped a beat.

I may try an overclock beyond the factory set, but to be honest right now they are more than enough, did win a bit of the lotto as both cards have Hynix memory, but the real bonus today was the two bags of tangfastics....:)

Just need mantle & star Citizen now and Im golden

Good to hear buddy.

A positive pressure case, with pci brackets removed at the rear, coupled with a side exhaust fan or two will help with temps when you have two cards dumping heat in the case.

Lovely looking cards i must say.

It's confirmed by VaporX user which is a sapphire rep. at overclock.net forums that all r9 290 tri-x and r9 290x tri-x models have Hynix memory.

I got this card yesterday as a replacement for my overly-hot MSI Gaming Edition. Pleased with the drop in temps (~13c).

Problem is it gave me artifacts while playing Shogun 2. Card is at stock speed/voltage!! What to do??

Hi how do you compare the two in fan noise, sorry I can't help with your problem

MSi Gaming give you artifacts?

Frankly I'm not the best to comment on fan noise as I am not too fussed about it. On Gibbo's guide he mentions the Tri-x is not as quite as the MSI but I'm assuming that's at 100% speed. I could barely hear the Sapphire yesterday because even at full load I think it wasn't going over 60% (fantastic cooling). Meanwhile the MSI I had to run on 100% fan speed to keep temps below 85 hence it was more noisy.

The Sapphire.

Increase volts 10mV or 15

I'm not OCing (yet). I'd assume the card should function without this issue at stock speed/voltage?

Try a different game Jarmen, just to rule it out. Are you over clocked or at stock?

Stock everything. I'm supposedly receiving NFS MW today so will try it out although I don't believe it would be the best game to validate this but really no other option ATM (New flat = no internet = CDs only). Would leaving Heaven benchmark running over night be a good idea?

Heaven will be fine for testing artifacts id think.

When I said increase 10 or 15mV, I said to increase stability, not for OC. That increase is so little for OC anyway, jut to stabilize your card which may not be getting all the power it needs.

I get you - what I'm trying to say is you'd expect a brand new card to function at stock speeds without any such issues at stock volts. If I'd need to bump into it a few extra volts just to stabilise stock performance then there's something wrong. Heck, most people get their cards to even run higher frequencies with the stock voltage.

True but it may not be about the card but rather the PSU ffeding it with lower amps than necessary. Look at you PSU it must have a sticker for this, look for 12V xxA, those amperes value must be good enough for this power hungry card. What is your PSU's efficency rating 80+ something and how much watt?
