How often do we see it going back to a SS failure? We'll again see the same excuse blaming lack of funding when really it falls down to lack of competence or interest.

In this case because there were so many agencies involved, school, social service, police etc I'd say this does point to a systemic failure rather than individual incompetence.

There are simple things that have been highlighted, like a child having 2 or 3 different 'idendity numbers' and different services using different ones which makes it harder to cross reference data compared to if it was all stored under 1 record on 1 database.

I also chatted to my partner about why or how this could have gone so wrong. It seems when a situation arises and you have multiple agencies involved then someone is nominated 'the lead professional' and it's then their job to head the investigation and co-ordinate all the other agencies. This could well be someone like my partner, a nursery manager. This is then a huge amount of work just plonked on someone, with a lot of responsibility that you suddenly have to do on top of your normal job and it might not be the only one you have. So this tends to mean no-one actually wants to take the role willingly. So for example, if you had more funding, you could create a role that is 'the lead' for any vunerable child case and does all the co-ordinating and manages the case, then it's their sole focus to make sure the investigation is progressing and doesn't fall through the cracks.

You have to wonder just how prisoners have access to a sharp lid off a tin though........regardless who they used it on.

Living in fear is far worse...I want him to live in the same scared/ anxious hell he was doing to her. Death would be easier.

He won't though will he. He will be looked after in prison, given decent food and solitary confinement.

To be honest I just don't see him as human anymore. So human rights don't apply in my view. A sack of horse manure has more value than him. That's why Im quite happy if he just ceases to exist right now, he is nothing and if he stays living then he is still something.

Depending on which report you read, it's either described as not life-threatening or he's fighting for his life.

I hope he survives.

Then someone can do it again.
I personally hope that it happens so many times that he eventually dies from lead/mercury poisoning from the actual tuna.

Even if he's given "decent food" (I'm not sure many prisoners would agree with that), sticking him in solitary confinement is still not pleasant, and every single time he's around anyone else he's going to be wondering "is this it".

Slightly ironically the human rights laws are probably going to increase the chances of him encountering someone else who doesn't like a child killer and doesn't have much to lose, as they can't just put him in solitary for ever, so he's going to be around other prisoners and I suspect even the kiddy fiddlers are going to be gunning for him as he tortured the girl and I suspect in the prison hierarchy even the paedophiles are going to be looking down at him.

I sort of want him to live a long life in which he can think about what he did, and think about where he is and what it's costing him for a very long time, and all the time think about who is around him and what they think of him.

They buy them from the Prison Canteen weekly and DPD deliver/distribute them to the prisoners.

It’s a bit like a **** Tesco.

Fixed that for you but yes we can’t take in glass jars or ceramic cups but prisoners get access to tuna cans, razors etc.

I have a family member who is a Prison officer ( warden then on dog search patrols), prison in NI at least, is definetly not the "nice" alternative many seem to think it is portrayed in various papers etc.

Of course it isn't. People pick a few Daily Gammon headlines and run with it.
