SAS question

hi guys considering gettting a 15K SAS drive, am i right in thinking its just the same as sata but there are effectivly 4 sata cables connected to the drive in one connector?, also is a controler required or can i use 4 sata ports on my mobo? also what is the blue cable for?

A SAS controller will handle a SATA drive but not vice-versa.

Incidentally, I believe that cable is for a backplane or breakout from a SAS controller as it has an SFF-8484 connector and the extra cable is a sideband connector for system management and LED control.

By similar i meant that they are physically one connector, not the 4 way shown in his pic.
