I hope this is the right section:

I want a Sat Nav that I can use in my car, but will also work flawlessly when in a tank bank strapped to a motorbike.

Whilst most will do this, it is essential to have a 3.5mm jack to hear the directions coming from the unit.

Any recommendations?

TomTom Rider I think is the one you want.

I, personally, wouldn't have anything other than TomTom as the others I've tried have been very poor (i.e. TomTom Says 3rd Exit on the Right others say 3rd Exit which means I have to look at the signs which makes SatNav pointless to a degree).

Thanks for the reply.

the tomtom rider is significantly more expensive than other sat navs.
the rider features seem a bit excessive, considering it will be stored in a waterproof tank bag.

The only alternative I can think of is perhaps going down the PDA route that way you can choose what software you would like, etc.

Get something like a Dell Axim X5 (seen them going for @ £60 on these forums) and then some software (around £100) then depending on what PDA you get you may need a GPS (which has to be mounted somewhere - perhaps a bluetooth one) the only downside I can see is the mounting - you maybe able to get some kind of bracket on a well known auction site. As for powering it, it has a rechargable battery but again you should find something on the aforementioned auction site.

The TomToms are exceptional and I guess if you look on a few sites you might pick up a Rider for a lot less.

Tom Tom Rider is now £250 at halfords .. But the most common used gps for bike use is the Garmin Quest .

Im planning to get one for my bike and there around 179 if you shop about or 50-100 on ebay .
Its waterproof and they sell dedicated bike mounts .

Hope this helps

The only thing I'll say about Garmin is that they use Map Source and IMHO it's nowhere near as good as the TomTom software. I'm sure, however, that some people will like it.

I have a Navigon 6 - Transonic sat nav. It has built in Traffic Master, has a head phone jack, and i find it brilliant. When it tells you the next instruction it tells you which road to take, ie. take the third exit off the roundabout on to the A470.

At big junctions it tells you what lanes to be in, it gives the speed limit of the road you are on, (doesnt work on every road yet) and gives you speed camera and traffic light camera notices, along with places where mobile cameras are used.

If you google navigon, then browse to the shop, its the Transonic 6000T
