hi guys I have a seagate st3250620as which is a sata 2 drive.

I have a DFI ultra-D motherboard which AFAIK supports sata2

I was googling my drive to see if it was .9 or .10 and I found this

http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/sata/st3250620as.html

Now I never fiddle with the jumper, I just slapped the drive in and installed windows.

Can I remove the jumper and enable 3.0gbit/sec without any problems? OR will i need to reinstall windoze?

Will i get any performance increase? I'm quite happy with the drive at the moment so it doesnt really matter.

what is the jumper needed for on my sata drives i just plug erm in to sata port and up and away but the drives i have are sata 1

i got a sata 2 drive on its way in the morning do i need to put any jumper on the drive or just slap on the sata 2 cable on we are set

sorry for the noob questions aint used sata befor

Yeah, take the jumper off and everything should be fine, the SATA controller drivers should auto detect the drive speed and change to SATA2 mode without any intervention

If you were to compare an HDTach trace of before and after you'll see an increase in the burst transfer rate but no change in the sustained transfer rate. As a result you'd be hard pushed to notice a difference in day to day use.
