Because what they say is true. There are different units used -

3.0GBp/s - 3 Gigabits per second.
300MB/s - 300 megabytes per second.

A byte is I believe 8 bits. The figures are approximations I think - to help the consumer.

yea sounds a lot better doesnt it...
its like broadband went from 128KB, to 512KB to 8Mb (8 megaBITS ( Mb) is equal to one mega BYTE ( MB - all capitals )

ofcourse the average Joe doesnt realise this but it makes an excelent selling point :D
