This might be a stupid question but I don't know the answer and don't fancy taking the risk without asking first.

Can I run a SATA and IDE hard drive in the same machine? The reason I'm asking is that I've got 2 hard drives that are collecting dust so I'd rather make use of them or sell them off.

If I can use them together is there a program I can use to completely delete everything on the disk and make it unrecoverable?

Cheers,

As long as you have IDE ports (which all mobos still do), then yes you can have both in there  Just make sure BIOS is set properly to which 1 to boot from :)

Searching sometimes (here/Google/manuals/etc) can save you the embarrassment/hustle/etc :D

That also goes for 2nd question, wait here for someone to hopefully reply or SEARCH! SEARCH! ;)

Sometimes a personal opinion or reply is better than a bunch of text thrown out from Google, or someones personal experience in doing so. Like you've said making sure BIOS is setup correctly to boot from the correct drive. A webpage wouldn't necessarily throw that kind of information up.

I read the Sticky but couldn't find any information relating to my question but thanks for the 2 links :)
