Sorry to post a thread about this but no one answered my question in another thread I posted in last week.

My motherboard has SATA connectors exactly the same as this:

The 2 at the top (1 red, 1 black) are however a problem for me as my 8800GT covers the top red one. I currently have a 90 degree cable supplied with my motherboard connected to that red connector.

What I am wondering is, how am I meant to use the black one next to it? I dont have a spare 90 degree cable to try but would another 90 degree cable fit in fine? To me it looks like it will push the other one up and make it not connect properly, can some one comfirm if it will work with another 90 degree cable or not?

Thanks.

Without seeing the cables it's difficult to tell for sure if you could use a pair of angle cables. I'd be surprised if you could really.

Can't you use one of the other ports?

I've never really looked into it but can't you get 90 degree connectors that go the other way? Otherwise I think it may be a little bit too close and will push up the connector as you suspect.

I am using 4 already, and will be adding 2x 750GB drives very soon, so will need them all - why the hell didn't asus put them so they are facing towards the front of the PC case like on some of their other mobos

Not sure, gonna look it to it thanks.

Actually, yes, you can get them that bend the other way. Depends on the brand. I noticed this when i bought 2 lots for ocuk and because i needed more and ocuk were out of stock i ended up buying a different brand. Cant tell you which brand bends which way, or even what brand they are though.

Hi fobose,

I'm afraid that if you are using an 8800GT you will lose at least one sata socket. You can use a right angled connecter in the red SATA 1 port but that will then block the black SATA 3 port.

You are losing just one port but anyone who uses an 8800GTX/Ultra loses two ports.

That about the worse thing on the ASUS P5K series, apart from that its a superb mobo. You will either have to make do with just five SATA ports, change your graphics card (lol as if) or perhaps track down this reverse right angled cables? (never seen or heard of them myself).

Thanks for the reply, that is a bugger :( I wish intel didn't drop PATA support from their chipset, that way I wouldn't have bought a sodding SATA DVDRW when I had 2 perfectly good PATA ones - and I didnt mind the rounded ribbon cable I had, as I cut off the extra connector and it looped in a unseen spot quite nicely.

Looks like I might have to look for a PCI-E RAID card, can only find a 4 port PCI-E x4 one from adaptec though - I might want to use my second full length slot for another graphics card (more monitors)

Oh and about that reverse right angled cable, I couldnt find nothing when I searched last night but I do remember seeing a website a while ago which actually said RIGHT/LEFT on the cable and had a picture of one going the opposite way, I will just have to find it again. Why is it OcUK stock only naff SATA cables? Such as the ones a 13 year old would buy to make his case look more like a christmas tree?

I have found the reverse right angled cable, funnilly enough its called a left angled cable lol. The description says when its plugged in to your hard drive, it will face up rather than facing down. Pretty cheap too at £1.50-70
