SATA cable splitter??

If I was you, I would either buy the PCI Sata Controller OR just get an eSata to Sata cable...or most likely just ditch the Sata DVD and get an IDE..as previously said, there is no performance loss, just a huge IDE cable...but you can buy some fancy IDE cables :-)

No IDE ports . . . .

Is the DVD drive necessary for daily use? IIRC you can share an optical drive on another PC (assuming you have one...) and access it over the network.

as i sugested earlier and jonj678 has just sugested, get one of these.

hid it all inside but run the usb cable out through any hole in the back of the case and into one of the usb ports.

they are about a £10.

Sorry to dig up this old thread but I'm really fed up with the portable drive I bought! It sucks too much power from my usb ports and means I have to plug 3 cables in just to run it!

So I'm going to go with one of the other solutions. Rather than get a usb to sata adaptor though I think I'd rather attach it to the e-sata port my mobo has.

Problem is I'm having trouble tracking down a esata to sata adaptor cable. Could someone tell me if such things exist? I've found one but the fact that thats all I found make me wonder if it'll work?

Basically I want to run a cable from my external esata port back inside my chassis and plug it into the sata port of my dvd drive. I'll then power it via a psu molex to sata, simple.

Does that sound plausible or am I missing something?

Any advice appreciated.

Haha, okay how stupid do I look!

Two questions tho 1) is that going in the correct direction?
2) 1.8m! That's huge! :(

1) I imagine it is bi-directional!

2) It's probably because it is designed to go from outside mobo connector and be descretly routed to the inside of the case. Better too long than too short. That rule applies to many things in life ;)

Your DVD drive (just like internal hard disks) have a SATA port while the eSATA port on motherboards, etc is different. Therefore, you require the eSATA to SATA one.
