SATA cables being eaten

Hey, recently my hard drive has been appearing to fail and causing BSODs etc etc. Anyway, it's because of the cable, so far I've replaced the cable twice now and it works fine after, I'm RMAing both the mobo and HDD anyway, but have any of you experienced this before? I can't understand what could cause the cables to break.

The set-up is 1 year and 2 months old and it started happened just before the PC was a year old, nothing changed around that time.

Motherboard: ASUS SLI-Premium
Hard Drive: Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM

I've updated the BIOS and all drivers to try and fix the problem but my second SATA cable just got served :)
 
Well it works with the new cable and not with the old so I'm guessing it is the cable :)

And it's not under tension, it has lots of slack and the hard drive is in line with the connector on the mobo.

I haven't tried the cables with other drives no, only with the one drive that it happens to then I throw the cable away so I don't get it mixed up, don't worry if you haven't experienced this problem, I'm not trying to fix it as the mobo and hdd are being replaced and then I can't see how it could continue happening, if it happens again before the new mobo arrives, I'll test the cable with the other drives.
 
Okay, I'm not replacing my motherboard now, just the hard-drive.

I'll see how it goes with the new hard drive, bought some better quality (i think) SATA cables too rather than the ones shipped with the motherboard, such a strange problem tbh.
