SATA Drive Not being recognised....HELP!!!!

hi all

my SATA hard drive is not being recognised....

am i right in thinking that i only need to put the SATA cable in the back and into port SATA 1 on the motherboard....

Maxtor 200GB

BIOS settings are default....i checked the onboard PCI check is enabled....

was working before....my IDE hard drive is working....i take that out try the SATA and nothing....

its also picking up my athlon 3200+ as a 2500+????....

Arent there seperate SATA settings in the BIOS?

For the cpu, you need to check the multiplier and fsb are set correctly. 200x11 for the 3200+.

will have a look at the settings for the CPU....but was unaware of the seperate SATA settings in the BIOS....

if anyone could shed any light on this would be greatful....

Sorry I cant be of more help, but its been a while since I used an NF7 and it was the S model with a different configuration. I'll see if I can find anything in the manual though...

Is the BIOS updated to the latest version?

If not, get it from here and use the flash utility to update it:

BIOS has never been updated....one area where i am a n00b....dont really understand it....

Maybe try downloading and re-installing the sata drivers.

If I'm not mistaken its a Windows-based utility so it should be easy to use.

Did you make sure the SATA controller is enabled in the BIOS?

I know this sounds SO patronising but you did say you're a noob. Are you sure the HDD power is in? It's just you mentioned the SATA cable but not the power.

Feel a bit silly now for even suggesting it, oh well.

i cant reinstall the drivers as i cant access the hard drive....

excuse me if im well off the mark and there is another way of doing it....

the HDD power....if you explain what it looks like and where it goes i can tell you yes or no....

i am a n00b and i am not....

i have built loads of PCs etc....but dont know the "ins and outs" when things go wrong....if you know what i mean....

Is the white standard molex power connector from your PSU connected to the drive? You can also use special sata power connectors with some psu's.

It needs an SATA power connector plugged into it, if your psu doesnt have any, use a molex to SATA converter.

i am a n00b.... :rolleyes:

its the PSU as i have changed the PSU so this is a generic one (for the mrs

) WITHOUT the SATA connector and am using the Antec Truepower 480w for my new build gaming PC (3700+SD, X1800XT etc)....
