I have an EIDE drive on its way out, i am looking at getting a SATA replacement, but the last time i had a SATA drive i had nothing but trouble, data corruption etc, and it was a nightmare (the system was at stock and not overclocked) has anyone else heard of this? i dont want to buy into old technology and i know i should get a SATA drive, i just dont want any hassle that might go with it

I think you will be safe with SATA these days. I don't think they're especially prone to corruption. Perhaps your problem was due to dodgy memory or an iffy SATA connector/controller.

Last I heard of that was when NF2 was new but on rev 2 also and early Silicon Image sata bioses (3112 not sure on 3114 controlers same but 4 channels instead of 2) messed up esp if you overclocked FSB, this was fixed by new sata bioses long ago.

Cant say i ever seen corruption but read enough in forums to know many did, but again most peeps were overclocking FSB, and I never read any more problems once new sata bioses came out.

The early Silicon Sata Raid drivers didnt even let you run udma mode 6, I was in mode 5 for many many months, its only last 2 or 3 drivers for Sil 3112 that bumped it upto proper udma6.

Data corruption on SATA comes from either an overclocked FSB or a dodgy SATA cable (most likely). SATA is now at a point where it's considered stable so I'd say if you are going to get a new drive then I'd go for SATA.

Ive been using sata drives for the past 18 months or so and have not had any "issues" with the hard disks during this time.
