Sata Expansion Card

Hi Guys,

I've run out of ports in my Motherboard.

I know I can get a x2 SATA PCI expansion card, but I would ideally like to get one with more ports so that I don't run into this again.

So my question is, can I purchase a bigger SATA PCI / PCIe card and just plug and play? I understand that pretty much all of the cards with more than two ports are built for RAID. But I don't want to RAID, will these still work just an a standard plug and play sort of device?

Also what would be the cheapest type of card to search for?

Thanks for reading

Most expansion cards will support JBOD (just a bunch of disks, without RAID).

How many SATA ports do you require?

I would like at least 4 I guess. Just to save me in the future.
But doesn't matter too much I guess. Just depends really how much a 4 / 8 alternative would be costing.

JBOD is a great term!
