Sata Hard Drives

I have one hard drive in my computer which is a SATA one and I was wondering if I have to set it as a master or slave or not?

Also do I have to format it before i partition it..its a new drive.

SATA drives dont need Master\slave settings.

As for formatting, depends on the drive. I've had a few that needed partitions created and formatted manually. You may need to use a utility similar to fdisk to partition and format the drive before Windows can detect it.
