I have a seagate 500gb harddrive which was pretty much full. I was transferring a large amount of data from it to another and there was some sort of error and had to cancel half way, then it did the same thing again after...then after a few restarts the HDD didnt appear at all on my computer..not even in bios.
Then i disconnected it and connected another..then reconnected the original seagate and it worked again.....I managed to copy the data over in smaller amounts. I then deleted the original data off the old HDD (but not all..theres was still some to copy over). After a restart the HDD is now appearing only with its drive letter. It does not show me the capacity or the amount of data on it. when i click on it it is telling me i need to format it.
I'm not sure what has happened or if some sort of file table has been deleted etc, but does anyone know how to fix this without reformatting it?
Someone suggested that i run chkdsk and i did CHKDSK D: /r and i left it running over night..was finished in the morning but the HDD is still not accessible.
