Hi,

Is there currently any noticeable benefit between a SATA drive and an IDE drive? I'm not looking to put them in RAID or anything. Obviously SATA is newer, but if I only have 1 hdd will there be any benefit in one type over the other?

Slightly faster and better cables for airflow.

Absolutely true, additionally if you have SATA ports they aren't doing anything else, it will be easier to transfer drives around as at some point in the (distant) future IDE will disappear. The only potential downsides is that you may need SATA drivers and the cables are a bit easier to dislodge.
