Is Sata II backwards compaitble with Sata, because i accidently bought one and my mobo doesnt support it apprently, K8n Neo platinum socket 754 one, iv tried it in there and the computer just doesnt boot, is there any advice for this, or am i guna have to RMA?

Which drive is it?

From the SATAII sticky...

4. Will my new SATA-II drive work on my SATA-1 controller (and vice versa)?

- SATA-II drives are backwards compatible with SATA-1 controllers (and vice versa, SATA-II controllers are backwards compatible with SATA1 drives).
NOTE: Some 3Gbp/s SATA-II drives require a jumper setting to force them to run at 1.5Gbp/s or else some issues may arise. Some owners of 3.0Gbp/s drives may experience problems however as some older 'SATA-II' drives (when 'SATA-II' was first released) require a firmware flash of their drive (in which case the manufacturer will need to be contacted). These issues arose as a result of manufacturer's bridging chip and firmware conflicts.

Its the Samsung SpinPoint P HD160JJ 160GB SATA-II 8MB. The K8N board is having real problems with it though, doesnt work even when i put the jumper on to make it into 1.5 mode.

Um, im trying to put the hard drive in as a second HD, i allready have a harddrive on Sata 1 on my mobo that has windows on it, when i put the other drive in it windows doesnt boot, you think i should try formatting the new HD without the old HD in useing the windows CP CD or something, or am i missing something here?

I tried this, i even tried switching sata cables, the problem is windows wont boot if the new hard drive is plugged in, bios wont come up when its in either, no matter which sata slot its in. This is really confusing me.
