SATA-II drive on SATA board

Is this possible? I bought this - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-046-WD&tool=3

And I presume the II/I conflict is why its not being picked up in Windows installation.

I manage to install the SATA drivers, but when it comes to beginning the XP installation, it says there's no detectable hard drive.

Is there any way to make this drive run like a SATA drive, or trick the mobo, etc.? Any jumper to switch? Can't see one at first glance, like, but it's still in the case.

Board is Epox 8HDA3+ (skt 754) by the way, so it's a couple of years old.
 
Ah right, those controllers replicate the connections on the mobo or something for older mobos?

Anyway, I don't know where to look for BIOS recognition when it's SATA. Boot order is LS120 (?!), CD-ROM, Hard Disk.

I don't know what LS120 is, though.
 
There are 6 SATA connections on the board. 1 & 2 (together), 3 & 4 (together), 5 & 6 (together). I've tried it on 1 & 2.

The only things that are connected are the SATA cable to the board & drive, and the 4-pin power cable. I take it there's nothing else? :o

Trying to find these jumpers now, can't see them whilst it's in the case...

it seems that my motherboard's SATA controllers (my mobo uses VT8237 ones) has problems with WD drives.

So I definitely need one of these jumpers to go across pins 5 & 6, as shown on that link. But I can't find any. The only one I know that I have is currently sat across 1 & 2 of the jumpers for CMOS!

How can I get hold of one?
 
I have an old computer here that has a drive at the top. It's turned on at the moment, but I can see that it's got 2 sets of 6 pins at the back of it (it's an old ish 48x CDR/RW one). One of the sets has a jumper across 2 pins - would there be any consequences to the drive/its use if I remove this?
 
WOOHOO! All working now! :D. Although I not only had to use the jumper I found, as per that website, and install the SATA drivers, but also some VIARAID ones I was linked to on the Epox website. It didn't ask for them, but would keep giving me the error message of no hard drive found in XP without them (even though the hard drive BIOS/RAID bit you get to by tabbing was recognising the WD drive by this point). So confusing.

Now, to find out if my CD drive on the other computer will work without that jumper...
