Seen a few comments about this mainboard having problems running these drives. I am looking to purchase one of the Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 NCQ 400GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM and would love to know if anyone has had similar issues or whether it should run just fine.

TIA

I've not heard of any specific issues with that drive and board but looking at the age of it the controller might not be able to auto negotiate the connection speed with the drive and hence it might be necessary to force the drive to use 150Mb/s. Now normally this is done with a jumper on the drive but Hitachi don't do it that way - you need to use the Hitachi Drive Feature Tool software to do it. That unfortunately brings on another issue - the drives need to be accessible without drivers for the DFT to work but I'm not sure if the Promise controller can be configured in a single drive / legacy mode to allow that to happen.

Do Hitachi still ship drives configured to 150MB/s by default? I thought they did and that the firmware tool has to be used to enable the 300MB/s interface speed. Could be wrong though.
