If i buy a SATA-II drive would i be able to plug it into the SATA1 connector instead?

Motherboard only has one Sata2 port and 2 Sata1 ports and im not sure whether i can just plug new into old and have reduced speed instead?

Thanks

yes you can still use new sata2 hdds on sata1 connections

you just have to make sure you set the jumper on the back of the drive
for it to work on your mother board

ah excellent, cheers!

Now the question is, do i get an internal or external?

Wanting 500GB and as theres only £15 difference im not sure what to get, has to be reliable though as my 2 Seagates recently died. Mostly used for backing up DVD's/Music etc.

thanks :)

if you go for the external way then you will need to use esata connection
to keep the same speed as a sata connection.

a lot of new boards now come with 1 or 2 esata connections, if not you could buy a esata back plate and connect to 1 of the satas on the board

you will also need a esata hdd caddy
