Hi, this may have been asked before, but is there a noticeable difference in speed with a normal (non-SSD) 7200 HD?

Specifically, I'm thinking of:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500413AS) (£30.98)

or slightly cheaper, and 50% more storage:

Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD753LJ)

Any opinions on these? Thanks :)

In a word; no.

No mechanical drive is fast enough to hit the limit of SATA2, so SATA3 will make no difference what-so-ever. It's merely a marketing thing so they can write 6Gb/s on it.

Id go with the Samsung F3 drive, they are fantastic drives :) Also go with the 1TB one for a few extra quid :)
