Trying to install a new sata maxtor 250gb hard drive into my new build computer that also has a sata 40gb samsung spinpoint as boot drive. The problem i have is that while i installed xp on the 40gb drive without a problem i cannot get the 250gb to be recognised .Initailly it was seen under hardware manager but only as 137gb not 250gb so i loaded new drivers and now its not seen at all .My motherboard is dfi lanparty UT NF4 SLI-D i havent used sata before so i may be doing something stupid any suggestions?

Ok if your using the Nvidia SATA ports you dont need any drivers to get windows installed if you have a windows xpsp2 slipstreamed, if its only xpsp1 you will need floppy and f6 method but at least your 250gig will be seen, if its only plain old xp you will obv still need floppy and f6 but your hdd will only be seen as 137gig till you update to sp1 or sp2 after install, even then you may need to use the admin tools to format the shaded (empty) part of drive above 137gig.

If your using silicons controler your going to need floppy and f6 regardless of sp2.

Thanks for the replies drive now installed and formatted to its correct capacity after installing sp2 .I thought things would get easier as technology advances ..obviously not! thanks again .
