I have an Asus P4P800-E board which has four SATA ports. Two are on a Promise Raid controller and the other two are on an Intel Chip.

I currently have Two drives striped on the Intel Raid controller. I want to add a third drive to this PC as a media dump for a few things.

Can i connect a new SINGLE sata drive to the promise controller or can taht ONLY be used for Raid arrays?

I know the Intel chip will handle single drives but not sure f the promse controller is RAID ONLY??

Ideally i guess i would move my current array over to the promise controller and run the single drive on the intel chip, but i cant move the current array over to the other controller without loosing my data can i?

Not sure if this will help or not but the on-board Promise SATA478 does support either IDE/RAID. IDE as in single SATA drives not the connection type. The option I believe under On-board devices.

Currently, my spare PC which has this board has two IDE HDD's on IDE0 and two SATA drives on Promise (configured as IDE in BIOS).

Out of interest what OS do you run? As to get XP SP1 (SP2 refuses) to install using F6 for SCSI/RAID drivers during installation I have to disable all drives except the DVD drive and destination SATA drive. Now XP is installed (SP1) and drives are enabled all works OK except for the two minute wait before XP will start to load once SATA BIOS screen has gone.
