Anyone got any ideas why i can only install my sata drive when its set to IDE in the bios? Xp install doesnt see it unless its set to IDE. Even after ive installed sata drivers when you press F6. Is it ok just to install it as IDE?

Cheers

Check in your Bios on power on to see if you have the IDE/SATA controllers to enhanced or legacy as that can cause some PCs to not pick up the drive in XP/W2K.

If you only use XP/W2K and no other OS then should be set to Enhanced in the Bios.

Nope no luck with that unfortunatly :(

For my bios options the sata controller has

Disabled
Sata0 controller
sata 1 controller
both

I have this set to both and for onboard sata type there is
Ide controller
Raid controller
Other mass storage

Do i just select Ide controller here?

i have this problem with me Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 NCQ 160GB SATA-II but i did a benchmark and there is no performance loss by running it in IDE mode so i wouldnt worry

ok well i just installed the Jmicron Sata2 drivers for the sata2 controler on my board and rebooted and set the drive to sata mode and now it works and my bench mark speed has doubled

when i installed windows it was in IDE mode then when in windows install your sata drivers and sata2 if you have that then reboot and set it to SATA and it should work
