Sata or IDE?

Might as well go for SATA, constant read performance is the same, but SATA edges out on burst rates.

Leave PATA channels for optical drives though, and any spare PATA IDE drivers you still use say 200GB.

IDE is actually being phased out on motherboards and many newer motherboards have only 1 channel, with future boards likely to have none.

Optical drives are finally going over to sata now (not for performance really, just convenience), so you can expect IDE to disappear completely in a few years time.

Bearing this in mind, and the fact that sata drives cost about the same as IDE drives, and its more convenient, i can't see any reason to get an IDE drive.
