SATA problems with firewire enabled

Has any one come across this problem before?

I added a SATA DVD drive to a system that had an IDE hard drive and two empty Sata ports.
The system would not boot, it would stick on the manufacturers splash screen or go past that and stick on a black screen with flashing cursor.

After hours of changing settings i disabled the front firewire port in the bios and after initail testing the sata drive now seems to be happy.

Is it common for sata and firewire to not get along nicely?

I am hoping it will still be booting happily tomorrow and that was the problem.

have you looked on your motherboard makers website?

have you updated the BIOS?

have you checked that they are not using the same IRQ?

Bios is the most uptodate,

Can not find any problems across the net for this board,

Have not checked IRQ's thing is when its not booting its not going as far as that screen, when it is booting its a bit quick,
if i can get it back in windows i will have a look there

Thanks

Looking hopeful now, but it seems to be some thing that is not mentioned in the manual or any where else i have looked.

You have primary and 2ndary (channel 0 &1) which are the 2 IDE ports
Channels 3 & 4 are the sata ports

I moved the IDE HDD to the 2ndary channel and all is good,

So the sata ports can not be used at the same time as the primary IDE channel.

System has been booted half a dozen times, with a good hour gap between a couple and it has booted every time, and there is a quick flash on the screen to do with the sata controller that i had not seen before.

You would think some thing like that would be some thing they would put in the manual.
