SATA SSD vs PCIE SSD?

Has anyone been lucky enough to get their hands on the PCIE SSDs and been able to experience the real world speed improvements between the two drives on a home computer?

I know we can all geek out over benchmarks but I'd like to know if the OS can make use of the extra speed.

I'm guessing with a regular SSD, data fetch/load speeds are no longer a bottleneck and it's more to do with the OS software which has to slowly check all the hardware, load appropriate drivers, check for input/output devices etc.

I have tried a few Plextor PCIE cards. and also a M.2 drive and this was a lot faster than a Standard SSD on SATA III but I didnt get much chance to play at real life tasks like photoshop or playing games. I hope to do some more testing soon.

I'd be interested in this as well, PCI-e drives were always too expensive a few years back and I always read they were pointless as boot drives but if this has changed I may think about it. The claimed speed of them is impressive.
